<thumb_tugofwar_engweekTennessee Tech University showcases engineering education in February during its annual Engineers' Week celebration.

This year, organizers encourage area students, alumni and community members to watch some of the fun activities associated with engineering education and the annual competition for "Best Darn Major."

"I would like to invite all Cookeville High School, Avery Trace, Prescott Central students and members of our community to join us during Engineers' Week 2011," said Alejandra Cisneros Conohan, Engineering Joint Council scholarship representative. "As an alumna from a couple of these schools, I know that every student can benefit from watching these events.

"Additionally, I encourage students to participate in Engineers' Week's 'Engineering A Future' program," she said. "Participating in 'Engineering A Future' has enriched my life tremendously! I am thankful for all of TTU's engineering programs as they have helped me shape my career goals, and I can hardly wait to see this year's girls begin to consider careers they never even knew existed. We invite all of our fellow students to be a part of this wonderful event that will help shape a better and brighter future for our community."

EJC plans and facilitates Engineers' Week on campus every February. Engineers' Week is a nationally celebrated event in honor of engineers created by the National Engineers' Week Foundation.

This year's events—Feb. 21-24—include competitions, the annual College of Engineering banquet, the annual Engineering Career Fair, and "Engineering A Future," a program to encourage young girls to foster an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
