Bell will usher in a new tradition and give the first “Last Lecture,” which has been created to give a retiring TTU administrator or faculty member the chance to address the entire campus and community.
Bell’s lecture, “On the Wings of Eagles,” will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Derryberry Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
“It was very clear that our obvious choice for the first Last Lecture was President Bell,” said Dustin Rawls, TTU’s director of orientation and student success. “I believe, based on the title of his lecture, that he’s going to take a look back at his past 30-plus years at Tennessee Tech and where he thinks the university is going and give his advice about how to get there.”
The lecture title comes from the Bible’s Book of Isaiah, “They will soar on wings like an eagle; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint.” Bell often quotes it at commencement and other campus ceremonies.
For those unable to come to campus to hear the lecture, the event will be livestreamed at www.tntech.edu/web/live.
