Tennessee Tech University mechanical engineering major Alexander McCoin will spend one year working for Marvin Doors and Windows in Ripley on a co-op, or cooperative education, assignment.

McCoin, of Portland, will work with time studies for the company’s production line and work on other projects as assigned.

“Co-op experience gives TTU students an edge as they get ready to start their careers,” said Don Foster, Career Services associate director. “The experiential education program can help students develop skills and better discover what they want to do when they enter the workforce after graduation.”

Students from all academic disciplines are eligible for the TTU co-op program, which is coordinated by the Office of Career Services. The office works regularly with hundreds of employers across the Southeast including business, industry, non-profit and government agencies to fit students’ career interests.

Tennessee Tech University, with an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, has been selected as one of the nation’s 50 “Best Value” public colleges and universities and “Best Southeastern College” by The Princeton Review.

McCoin, son of Glenn and Anne, graduated from Portland High School in 2009. He is a senior at TTU.
