Ryan Goke, a freshman English student from Hartsville, has won several awards with Tennessee Tech University’s speech and debate team.
At the Buccaneer Parli Plunder Debate Tournament, Goke won second palace in team novice debate and won the second place speaker award in novice debate. The team’s coach Graham Kash, TTU communication professor, was given the Graham Kash Service Award. The tournament was April 5 at Eastern Tennessee Sate University’s Kingsport campus.
At the Tennessee Intercollegiate Forensics Association State Tournament, Goke won the sixth place speaker award in novice debate. The university team won third in the debate sweepstakes. The tournament was held March 29-30 at Middle Tennessee State University.
At the Ruby C. Krider and Alumni Open Tournament, Goke won sixth place in novice impromptu debate and seventh in radio broadcasting. The TTU team also won first in debate sweepstakes, and won third in small team individual events both days of the tournament, which was Feb. 7-9 at Murray State University.
At the Transylvania WYRD tournament, Goke was a quarterfinalist in the open debate competition. He also won the ninth place speaker award in novice debate. The university team placed fifth in the sweepstakes award. The tournament was Jan. 24-25 at Transylvania University.
