Tennessee Tech’s Minority Affairs Office and Center Stage are bringing popular modern dance company Ailey II to the Cookeville Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31

Based in New York City, Ailey II, the second company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, merges the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of some of today’s best emerging choreographers.

Created in 1974 and founded by Alvin Ailey, the company features performances by America’s best young dancers, choreographed by some of the freshest choreographers.

Ailey grew up in the rural South before moving to Los Angeles. He formed the company to preserve the uniqueness of the African-American cultural experience through modern dance.
