The School of Human Ecology at Tennessee Tech University recently presented Leigh Southward with its 2004 Outstanding Service Award.

A faculty member of TTU’s School of Human Ecology, Southward is the wife of Michael Goolsby.

“She exemplifies all that the Service Award represents. Her service activities extend across department, college and university boundaries, as well as reach out to community and professional organizations,” said Sue Bailey, director of TTU’s School of Human Ecology.

Southward is the author of an e-newsletter for agriculture and human ecology freshmen, and she organizes the annual “Fall Fling” for the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology.

Community organizations with which she works are Habitat for Humanity, Cookeville Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Jacob’s Ladder Child Care Board of Directors and the Upper Cumberland Homebuilders Association.

She’s a member of the Tennessee Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Board of Directors and serves as the organization’s secretary. She has presented scholarly work at the International Textiles and Apparel Association, American Collegiate Retailing Association and American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
