Tennessee Tech University has once again been ranked by The Princeton Review as a "Best Southeastern College."

This is the third consecutive year the publication has recognized TTU in the rankings. The most recent ranking was released today. Of 17 schools listed for all of Tennessee, TTU remains one of only four public universities to earn the designation.

"As always, I am proud of this ranking because it directly reflects the opinions of our students and the quality education they receive at Tennessee Tech University," said TTU President Bob Bell. "The lifelong success of our students is the true indicator of excellence, and this ranking reinforces our campus-wide commitment to that goal."

To qualify for inclusion, each school had to meet standards for academic excellence and allow its students to participate in anonymous surveys to provide opinion-driven profiles. According to The Princeton Review web site, the regional rankings provide a way to "raise awareness of academically excellent but lesser-known colleges with students looking to study within a specific geographic area."

"We believe these schools uphold the standards of our Best Southeastern College distinction and provide students with a wide breadth of excellent schools to consider," said Robert Franek, publisher and editorial director for The Princeton Review.

A summary of student comments provided on the survey appears on the web site. Students give frank, first-hand accounts of what life and academics are like on the college campuses. TTU students provided insight into what makes TTU a distinct university.

Professors are known to "expect a high amount of productivity from their students. They are not always easy on you, but at the end of the day they want to see their students succeed," wrote one TTU student.

Tennessee Tech University traditionally earns multiple top ratings. Last week it was ranked by U.S. News & World Report magazine's 2007 America's Best Colleges guidebook as one of the Top Public Universities in the South for its category, as well as among the Best Universities, which includes both public and private schools, in its category for the South.

The Princeton Review is a New York City-based company known for its test prep courses, education services, and books. It has conducted the survey since 1992, when it first published its annual "Best Colleges" —college rankings based on student ratings of their schools and reports of their experiences at them.
