thumb STEM_teacher_pd_summer20131Tennessee Tech University’s Oakley STEM Center offers a unique series of specialized, targeted professional development workshops for regional teachers and administrators this summer in the state-of-the-art education facility. The learning standards-based workshops provide training, resources and support materials to participating educators.

June 17 through 19, the center hosts two Texas Instruments’ TI-Nspire workshops for high school mathematics teachers including "Getting Started with TI-Nspire in High School Mathematics" and "Implementing the Common Core Mathematical Practices with TI-Nspire." The workshops run concurrently, and teachers will select one of the two trainings offered.

“Our summer 2013 professional development line up for teachers is quite special,” said Gail Gentry, outreach coordinator at the Oakley STEM Center. “We are thrilled to present the TI-Nspire workshops for high school math teachers in June and a variety of educator learning opportunities in July, including 'Next Generation Science Standards for Elementary and Secondary Teachers,' 'Formative Assessment in Writing in Mathematics,' 'Rockets & Engines: Build & Launch in partnership with NASA' and more.”

Teachers throughout the region are encouraged to participate in these needs-identified, engaging workshops. They will take these experiences and resources back to the classroom to interest and inspire their students.

Professional development online registration is open. Visit for workshop descriptions, details and instructions.
