A Kentucky native, Brandon Jones plays the euphonium, a brass instrument similar to the tuba, for the U.S. Air Force Band in Washington, D.C.
An acclaimed performer and teacher, many of his students have gone on to win top ratings at festivals and play principal positions in performing groups. During his time in Cookeville, he will also give a master class to TTU students.
Jones has performed around the globe, first gaining notice as the youngest performer to make the finals at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference at 19 years old. The next year, he became the first to be among the finalists for two years in a row.
TTU accompanist Paul Thurmond will join him for his 7:30 p.m. concert in Wattenbarger Auditorium in the Bryan Fine Arts building on the TTU campus. His performance will include a demanding piece, “Concerto for Euphonium,” written by former TTU music professor Robert Jager.
The concert is free and open to the public. The Bryan Fine Arts building is located at 1150 N. Dixie Ave.
