Published: Wed Feb 11, 2004The spring production of Woody Allen’s famed romantic comedy Play It Again, Sam kicks off this month at Tennessee Tech University’s Backdoor Playhouse.
The show — produced in arrangement with Dramatists Play Service — begins at 8 p.m. on Feb. 19, 20, 21 and 24 and at 10 p.m. on Feb. 23.
First performed at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City, Play It Again, Sam has a lively plot revolving around the dating dilemmas of the play’s unlikely hero, Allan, who has eyes for his best friend’s wife in spite of her efforts to fix him up with a bevy of other women.
A New York Post review of the play describes it as “a funny and likeable comedy that has a surprising amount of wistful appeal.”
Directed by Sean Dietz, it is a Center Stage event and is the fifth annual production in the Backdoor Playhouse’s New Directors Series.
Ticket prices are $8 for general admission, $6 for senior citizens, $4 for non-TTU students, $3 for employees at TTU Employee Appreciation Night on Tuesday, Feb. 24, and free for TTU students who present their Eagle identification card at the door.
The Backdoor Playhouse is located at the rear of TTU’s Jere Whitson Building.
