Research & Economic Development


The Centers bring together cooperating interdisciplinary research teams of faculty and students from departments, schools and research units throughout the campus.

These Centers of advanced scholarship within state-supported universities were founded and received special funding through the State of Tennessee Centers of Excellence program. Each Center strives to use present education resources to achieve excellence; to support economic development in the state; to enhance the intellectual, cultural and social climate for Tennessee citizens; to use external sources to improve research; and to attract nationally and internationally recognized faculty to Tennessee institutions.

The Center for Energy Systems Research

As part of the College of Engineering's new initiative the Center is the home of two strategic research areas: Smart Grid and Resilient Infrastructure.

The Center for Manufacturing Research

The Center for Manufacturing Research was created to draw together resources of Tennessee, the University, industries, and government funding agencies into a cooperative effort to be on the leading edge of the latest technological advances in manufacturing.

The Center for the Management, Utilization and Protection of Water Resources

The Center for the Management, Utilization and Protection of Water Resources at TTU was created to mobilize an interdisciplinary team of professionals to address the increasing demands on water resources.

The Center for Health Care Informatics

The Center for Healthcare Informatics’ mission is to assemble the best academic, public, and private healthcare leaders into a center of excellence in research, development, and program design and implementation.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Center

The STEM Center is a state-of-the-art STEM-education facility at Tennessee Tech in support of a campus-wide initiative to enhance existing models and develop new educational strategies in STEM-related fields.
