Official Policy Effective July 1, 2015
Archived Letter (text below):

Dear Faculty:

I am pleased to inform you that Tennessee Tech has made available an on-line training on responsible conduct of research. This training is also applicable to our core mission of teaching and learning, and it is consistent with our commitment to the life-long learning of our students by providing a resource that fosters high standards of ethical conduct.

Further, the Office of Research Integrity under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services requires individuals submitting proposals or applications for federal funds to have training in Responsible Conduct of Research.

The America COMPETES (Creating Opportunities to Meaningfully Promote Excellence in Technology, Education, and Science) Act which was signed into law (PUBLIC LAW 110-69, SECTION 7009) in August 2007, by President George W. Bush increased agency oversight and stipulated agency requirements for training in the Responsible Conduct of Research. Accordingly, each institution that applies for financial assistance from the National Science Foundation for science and engineering research or education must describe in its grant proposal a plan to provide appropriate training and oversight in the responsible and ethical conduct of research to undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers participating in the proposed research project.

To facilitate compliance with the law, and consistent with our commitment to high ethical standards, an online training course is available here and should be completed by all faculty.

This course should take about one hour and a half to complete and will only need to be completed once.

Its completion will satisfy the broad requirements for the Responsible Conduct of Research and should foster development of appropriate programming in this area.

Upon completion of the course, a Certificate of Completion will be generated. Please print and submit a copy of this certificate to:
