What is your favorite thing about TTU?
My favorite thing about TTU is the culture that is established on campus. It seems that wherever you go, you are welcomed and always have a hand reaching out to help you. Because it is a smaller campus, it is an awesome networking opportunity!
What is your most memorable TTU experience so far?
My most memorable TTU experience isn’t necessarily narrowed down to one specific event. There have been many memorable events, but I would have to say that if I had not been involved in all that I am during those events, my experience would not have been the same.
How did you choose your major?
Previously, my major was dental hygiene until I decided that working on teeth was not something that I felt I was called to do. After transferring to Tech, I came across the nursing program and spoke with several people about it, as well as current nurses. From there, I had my mind set that I wanted to be called Nurse Katherine for the rest of my life!
What is your favorite meal at TTU?
I love all kinds of food, so a favorite meal at TTU is a tough choice! I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoy most things from the cafeteria, and regularly eat veggies from the salad bar, soup, and a toasted blueberry bagel with peanut butter about three times a week for lunch.
Advice for incoming college freshman from your experience so far?
Although college can be overwhelming and stressful, be sure to make time for yourself. I’ve found that if I make even just a little time for myself each day (whether it be running, writing in a diary, etc.), I feel less stressed and more accomplished.
What is your favorite TTU Tradition and why?
Homecoming is always a very fun season here at TTU! If you thought Homecoming was fun in high school, it only gets better at Tennessee Tech. There are so many ways to get involved with all the activities that are going on. You don’t want to miss out!
What kind of extracurricular activities are you involved in on campus and in the community?
I am a sister of a Panhellenic sorority in which I have held previous Executive Offices, Executive Vice President of Philanthropy and Public Relations for Tennessee Tech Panhellenic, and Vice President of Communications for the Future Alumni Support Team. I attend Life Church here in Cookeville, TN.
What movie star would you play in a movie? Why?
If I could be a movie star in any movie, it would most definitely be Cameron Diaz as Amanda Woods in The Holiday mostly because she is my all time favorite actress and because I have seen the movie probably 70 times, no exaggeration.
What was your biggest mistake as a freshman? What did you learn from that experience?
My biggest mistake as a freshman was thinking that I was “too cool” for certain things. I missed out on several opportunities that I could have taken. My advice: You are never “too cool” for anything! The more opportunities and chances that you take, the more involved you will become, which will have you more thoroughly enjoying your college experience!
What is your favorite book?
It’s hard to choose a favorite, but the two most memorable books that I have read is Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo & Lynn Vincent, and Crazy Love by Francis Chan. Any book written by James Patterson has me on my toes from the get-go!
