InterFraternity Council (IFC)
At Tennessee Tech, the Interfraternity Council consists of 10 active organizations
and is continuing to grow. All 10 organizations consistently strive for positive interfraternal
relations, brotherhood, scholarship and service, leadership opportunities, lifelong
friends and creating a greater campus community. Through these characteristics of
our council, each member of a fraternity will actively partake in philanthropy events,
community service, educational seminars, as well as social gatherings with other students.
How to Join an IFC Fraternity
All students who want to join a fraternity or sorority must have a minimum cumulative
GPA of a 2.0, community service experience, and involvement in clubs or community
activities. All interested men must sign up through the ICS registration system to
be considered for recruitment. There is a $15 fee associated with registration; this
fee covers food and supplies at IFC hosted rush events.
At the beginning of the Fall semester, the Interfraternity Council holds its Formal Recruitment process. IFC Recruitment gives potential members the opportunity to meet members of each fraternity. The IFC Recruitment process is one of mutual selection: the fraternities decide which recruits they wish to invite into membership, and the recruits choose which fraternity they wish to join. Each organization will host individual recruitment events in various locations on campus and throughout the Cookeville area. Eating lunch together, playing sports, completing service projects, meeting alumni, viewing slide shows or video presentations, and just asking questions of fraternity members in a casual atmosphere are a few examples of things potential members might do during IFC Recruitment. The formal process lasts one week and allows students the opportunity to explore Greek Life without joining any particular fraternity. At the conclusion of recruitment, each fraternity extends “bids,” or offers of membership, to men that it wishes to be part of its organization.
In the Spring semester there is an informal recruitment process. Not all IFC chapters host Spring rush, but we will promote all organizations that are hosting rush events.
