Application Steps

If you wish to be an exchange student at Tennessee Tech, first check to see if your institution has an agreement with Tennessee Tech. Many institutions are affiliated with Magellan Exchange or we have a bilateral exchange agreement. Here is a listing of our Partner Universities and Affiliations. If we have a bilateral exchange agreement with your university, an official at your university must nominate you to participate in the program.

Application Instructions for Exchange Students Planning to Attend Tennessee Tech
This is your online application guide. The steps below explain the application process.

  • Apply for Admission

    The quickest way is to complete an ONLINE APPLICATION, here are the (STEP BY STEP ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS),  or you may submit a paper application (International Exchange/Visiting Student Application) for admissions. Exchange visitors for admission to the university are encouraged to complete an application as early as possible. Please note Exchange students do not pay the $40 application fee.

  • Send Transcripts

    A letter of good standing and transcript/academic records must be sent to Tennessee Tech from your institution sent to the Director of International Education (email below). All transcripts/academic records must be in English.

  • Affidavit of Financial Support and Passport

    All international exchange applicants are required to submit adequate evidence of financial support to cover the cost of living expenses for the period they will study at Tennessee Tech before the Certificate of Acceptance to the university is mailed.

    Students requesting a DS-2019 are required by Federal law to submit financial verification to be issued the documents. You will take the DS-2019 and apply for your J-1 visa in your country. Be sure to pay the SEVIS fee prior to your visa appointment; go to http://www.fmjfee.com to pay the SEVIS fee.

    Students already in the USA, who have a visa, must submit copies of your passport, DS-2019, I-94 and visa.

  • Proof of English

    Exchange students may submit documentation to verify proof of English proficiency.  Here is a listing of accepted English Test Scores. Students may also submit a form to verify English skill from their exchange coordinator to verify their English skills.

  • Health Forms

    Three forms must be completed and submitted to Health Services before a student can enroll:

    Note: If students do not have the required vaccinations before arrival, they will have to go and get them either at the on campus clinic or at the local pharmacy.  In most cases, the vaccinations in the USA are more expensive than in the students home countries.  Currently, the COVID-19 vaccines are free and available to all students.

  • Health Insurance

    All International students must submit proof of health insurance coverage.  Coverage must include a minimum of $100,000 USD for Medical benefits, $25,000 USD for Repatriation of remains, $50,000 USD for Medical evacuation coverage and $500 or less for a deductible per accident/illness.  Students may purchase insurance in their home countries, however, they must present the policy coverage information in English and it must have the students name, proof of purchase and dates of coverage.  If proof is not submitted upon arrival to the university, students will be required to purchase the international insurance from the company that is connected with the university.

  • Submit All Materials

Upon being admitted to the university, you will receive a letter congratulating you on your admittance. Your acceptance letter will also contain instructions on the next steps you need to take to become a full-time Tennessee Tech student.
