What is Tennessee Tech’s Talon System?

Campus Townhall

Our Campus Townhall to introduce the Talon project took place on September 17th, 2024. We heard from key University leaders and shared some details of what you can expect in the new system. If you were not able to attend, you can view the recording below. Share your feedback by taking the post-event survey, and reach out to the Talon team if you have any questions!

After nearly two decades of service, Tennessee Tech’s current Human Resources and Finance applications and products platform — known throughout the university as Banner Human Resources and Banner Finance, will transition to a new cloud-based solution called Talon. Talon is the name selected for this new system and represents Tennessee Tech’s continuing journey towards operational excellence. Given the central role that the current modules play in processing of Tech’s business activities, the university administration has already started transitioning to the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, known as Talon. We expect the Talon implemented of Human Capital Management (HCM) and Business/Financial Systems in January 2026.

Why are we doing this?

Today, the computer systems used in Finance and Human Resources utilize a complex combination of computer software, data standards, and work processes. A move to a modern cloud-based platform gives Tennessee Tech the ability to use an integrated system that promotes real-time communication, data entry efficiencies, enhanced security, automated workflows, and evolving technologies.

Thank you

The Tennessee General Assembly passed a historic budget in April 2022. Among other items, it allocated $50 million in nonrecurring funding for the UT System and $120 million in nonrecurring funding for other public universities to implement a new common ERP solution. Of the $120 million, each Locally Governed Institution (LGI) including Tennessee Tech will receive $20 million to assist with the implementation. Thank you to our legislators and Governor Bill Lee for making this important investment in public universities across our state. This key investment will transform the way we do business.
