What's new this year?

For TTU Purple Pride Days 2014, the Office of Communications & Marketing, in conjunction with the Office of Student Orientation, will be implementing the first annual Purple Pride Alert on Thursday, August 28 at 11 a.m. across campus. Purple Pride Spotters will be patrolling campus with Awesome Eagle to reward those showing their TTU Pride!

What is TTU Purple Pride Days?

TTU Purple Pride Days was developed to enhance what was already growing in our community and on our campus — enthusiasm and excitement for a wonderful partnership. This program provides a mutually beneficial way for TTU to support the businesses and citizens of our surrounding communities by recognizing and honoring the pride they proudly display for THEIR hometown university. What better way to welcome new and returning students and faculty each year than to introduce them to the companies and the people who support them?

When are TTU Pride Days scheduled?

TTU Purple Pride Days always correspond with the opening of campus residence halls to welcome students each fall — typically in mid- August through the first home football game. Events are often planned throughout those weeks, on and off campus. This year TTU Pride Days will be celebrated August 11 through September 12.

Who should participate in TTU Purple Pride Days?

Everyone! You, your neighbors or your friends should participate. Even the guy you don't really know but wave to once in a while. TTU Purple Pride Days isn't just for alumni or students. It's for everyone who lives in Putnam County and our surrounding communities. And it's for those who live hundreds of miles away but still hold a special place in their hearts for Tennessee Tech University.

What can I do to participate?

Show your TTU Purple Pride! Put up yard signs. Hang banners. Wear purple and gold. Display TTU memorabilia. Visit campus. Attend sporting events, concerts and other special activities. Become involved in some of the many community-oriented groups and activities on campus. Your support makes a difference!

If you own a business in town, decorate with purple and gold to create your own display. Put TTU Pride up on your marquee. Consider offering a discount to anyone wearing purple and gold or any TTU clothing or merchandise. Businesses can become a TTU Pride Partner (for FREE)! Once signed up, we'll provide you with a special poster to display inside your business designating you as a "TTU Pride Partner." We'll encourage campus constituents to visit and shop at your businesses.

Where do I get my TTU Purple Pride Stuff?

Yard signs will be available soon at the following locations: Roaden University Center information desk, the U.C Bookstore, TTU Ticket Office in the Hoop, TTU Alumni Office in Jere Whitson Hall, the Leslie Town Centre / Chamber of Commerce, and the Highlands Visitor Center. Maybe you'd like to buy TTU shirts for your family or employees — stop by the University Barnes & Noble Book Store for all the latest TTU styles and promotional items. If you haven't visited in a while, plan to be amazed. You'll find TTU emblazoned on more gift and clothing items than you can imagine. You can also find TTU clothing and gifts at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Cracker Barrel, Dunham's Sports and Hibbet Sports. Limited items may also be available at local Walgreens' locations.

Why should I show TTU Purple Pride?

Because TTU is proud of you. Our surrounding communities are one of the key selling points for TTU. When we talk to prospective students, we tell them about the hometown, friendly atmosphere of our communities. We talk about the warm, caring and safe environments; the amazing cultural aspects; and the wonderful parks and naturally scenic beauty of our region. But we also stress the support we get from our communities and the people who live here. Students get good feelings about being welcomed into our communities by the people who live here.

And TTU provides much support in return. The university's impact on the local economy amounts to over $150 million per year. Student and visitor spending alone totaled more than $30 million and affected more than 2,000 jobs in 2001. We offer hundreds of sporting events, concerts, performances, movies, etc. each year. And most all of them are open to the public.
