Student Marketing Agency
With funding provided by Marketing and the university's Quality Enhancement Plan, the Office of Communications and Marketing seeks to create a functional, productive Student Marketing Agency that will accept marketing, public relations and advertising projects and provide student participants with hands-on, real world learning experiences. Our goal is to work with students to improve critical thinking and real-world problem solving with an emphasis on the creative process and project management.
Structured like a real-world marketing/advertising agency, interested students will complete an application to be selected to participate. Participation is currently limited to five students. Participating students will be responsible for performing all tasks necessary to operate a marketing agency, including:
- Project management
- Project solicitation (sales)
- Graphic design / creative work
- Web design / programming
- Photography / videography
- Project implementation
- Research and development
- Financial operations
Students will primarily handle marketing projects offered to them by student organizations. The Student Marketing Agency will offer these organizations (and interested others) low-cost research, print materials, event coordination, media pieces, etc. Students will receive competitive stipends for work produced. Participation in the Student Marketing Agency requires a minimum of 7.5 hours per week. In addition, depending on major, some academic departments have agreed to offer participating students internship credit (3 hours). During a regular semester, internships typically require about 15 hours of work per week.
