Alexis Pope will lead Tennessee Tech University's Admissions Office as the new Director of Admissions.
Pope began his career at TTU as a campus visit coordinator in 2005, managing the daily operations of campus visitation and supervising admissions representatives. In that role, he tripled the number of student representatives.
He took on the role of admissions counselor in 2006, traveling in the East Tennessee area and contributing to the university's record-setting enrollment growth. He became an assistant director of Admissions in 2007.
"This is certainly a challenging time for higher education in Tennessee and the nation, and I am excited to take the helm of the university's efforts in recruiting and enrolling outstanding students that "fit" Tennessee Tech," said Pope. "We have partnered with TTU faculty and other offices in this effort, and I am eager to continue improving these relationships."
As assistant director of Admissions, he restructured the university's recruitment communications plan and rebuilt the student telecounseling division. He also used technology to enhance services for other offices by creating an online reservation system for student orientation and by developing an online database and forms for the Office of Graduation to track ceremony attendance and diploma mailing.
He also serves as an instructor for UNIV 1020, a class that connects students to university life and to other students by helping them become familiar with university resources and activities.
As the new Admissions director, Pope will focus on recruitment tactics to support goals the university has set under the Complete College Tennessee Act, an act that emphasizes retention and graduation successes.
Pope holds a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in instructional leadership from TTU. He is current pursuing a doctorate in education in higher education administration from Tennessee State University.
Pope and his admissions team report to Robert Hodum, TTU's associate vice president for enrollment management and student success.
"Alexis is a natural leader with an uncanny ability to analyze data, think critically, and build a team to accomplish some pretty remarkable goals," said Hodum. "He has been a critical member of the enrollment management team, and I'm excited to see where he will lead the university in our efforts to recruit the appropriate quality and quantity of students."
