Auditions for the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the TTU Backdoor Playhouse in the Jere Whitson building. Casting is open to anyone age 18 and up who is interested; there are 4 female and 5 male speaking parts. Minority students are strongly encouraged to audition.
Auditions will consist of cold-readings from the script and actors are encouraged to prepare 16 bars of a song to sing, either a capella or with an accompanist, at the audition.There will be an accompanist available.
This one act musical comedy centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the Bee,
run by three equally-quirky adults.
The show will run Nov. 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and be directed by Mark Creter with music direction by Mendy Richards. The show is produced by the TTU Centerstage Series in cooperation with Music Theatre International.
The show's music and lyrics were written by William Fin, the book by Rachel Sheinkin.
Scripts are available for 24-hour loan from Mark Creter, South Hall room 225.
