Tennessee Tech University and the Cookeville community will have an opportunity to bid farewell to Bob and Gloria Bell, president and first lady of TTU, at a picnic on Tuesday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Main Quad.
Bell will retire July 1 after 36 years at the university, including 12 years of service as president.
A free barbecue lunch will be available for the first 2,500 attendees. Local businesses have donated food and beverages for the occasion. The city of Cookeville, the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations also have made contributions to sponsor the event.
“We are looking forward to a chance to see friends and associates and reminisce about the good times we’ve had at TTU,” said Bell.
In the event of rain on Tuesday, the picnic will be held Wednesday, May 2.
Campus visitors may park near the intramural fields off Willow Avenue. Shuttles will transport visitors from the parking area to the Main Quad.
