The 2011 fall production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," opens in the Backdoor Playhouse Thursday, Nov. 3.
The one-act musical comedy centers on a fictional spelling bee set in the geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the bee, which is run by three equally quirky adults.
There will be performances at 8 p.m. on Nov. 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12, as well as a 10 p.m. show Nov. 10 and a 2 p.m. matinee Nov. 12 in the Backdoor Playhouse in the Jere Whitson building. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 senior citizens and $5 for non-Tech students. Tech students get in for free with their TTU ID.
The production contains language that may be objectionable to some audiences. It is produced in cooperation with Music Theatre International. The music and lyrics were written by William Finn, the book by Rachel Sheinkin. The show is directed by Mark Harry Creter with musical direction by Mendy Richards.
