The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2011-12 Caplenor Faculty Research Award is noon on Sept. 16. No individual may nominate more than one person.

The award, given annually in recognition of achievements in research, will be presented at the December commencement ceremony and consists of an honorarium, a plaque and a listing on a permanent plaque displayed in Derryberry Hall.

The award was established in honor of the late Charles Donald Caplenor, who served as associate vice president for research and dean of instructional development until his death in 1979, and was first presented in 1984. Physics professor Sakir Ayik was the most recent award recipient.

Guidelines for the selection of award recipients include: The major portion of the research must have been performed while the nominee was employed by Tennessee Tech; an individual may be nominated for an outstanding career of research at Tennessee Tech or for a single significant accomplishment and any full-time TTU faculty with at least three academic years of service prior to nomination is eligible. Previous award winners will not be eligible for nomination for five years.

Complete guidelines and the nomination form are contained on the Office of Research’s home page at the link below. Nominations may be submitted by using this form and should be returned by noon, Sept. 16, to the Caplenor Faculty Research Award Committee, Box 5036.
