Bill Eberle, assistant professor of computer science, is a parent and representative of Tennessee Tech on the Putnam County Schools' calendar committee. He says this is a chance to address the issue of the system's breaks not aligning with the university's fall and spring breaks.
"It's been a tricky problem; faculty members cannot take breaks for family vacations that coincide with the school system calendar," Eberle said. "As the area's second largest employer, this issue affects a lot of people."
The school system's website currently features four proposed calendars; Eberle says one will align with TTU's fall break and another aligns with TTU's spring break.
"We hope a lot of TTU employees will go on to the site and register their opinion on which calendar they prefer," he said.
According to the website, the model chosen will be recommended by the calendar committee to the Board of Education for consideration of approval at a future, public board meeting.
Eberle says the online poll should be active through fall break.
