The entire campus and the Cookeville community will have an opportunity to bid farewell to Bob and Gloria Bell, president and first lady of Tennessee Tech University, at a picnic on Tuesday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the TTU Quad.

Bell will retire July 1 after 36 years at the university, including 12 years of service as president. As that date approaches, several events are scheduled, including his “Last Lecture” on April 19 and a formal retirement banquet on April 21.

The free picnic will include a barbecue lunch for the first 2,500 attendees. Local businesses have donated food and beverages for the occasion. The city of Cookeville, the Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and other organizations have made contributions to help sponsor the event.

“We are looking forward to a chance to see friends and associates and reminisce about the good times we’ve had at TTU,” said Bell.

Recently all campus employees were invited to the April 21 banquet, which will be funded by the registration fee given by attendees.
