Don’t miss your invitation to explore at TTU’s STEM Center — The first workshops hosted by Tennessee Tech University’s Millard Oakley STEM Center start in June, and the deadline is approaching for sessions scheduled through June 11. For high school students who will be in grades 9-12 in this fall, the center is offering “Autopsy a Shark” on June 8 and 9. Students will explore the anatomy of the shark and compare it to the anatomy of the perch. Students interested in careers in the health sciences are particularly encouraged to attend. Students who will be in grades 5-8 next fall can become skilled robotics explorers, learning the basics of programming NXT Mindstorms robots in the training areas on the Space Shuttle Entrop. The LEGO Mindstorms workshop will be June 3 and 4. Middle school students can also get a head start on next year’s science and engineering fair by attending a workshop June 9, 10 and 11. Students will select a topic, begin research on the topic, and develop a design for their study and meet faculty mentors. The deadline to register for these workshops is Wednesday, May 19.
