Following the university's goal to link funding to proposals that support the strategic plan, the Strategic Planning committee recently reviewed and approved many strategies entered into the committee's website.
The review and approval session marks the first time the website entries have been used to as a way to evaluate and fund proposals.
The committee considered strategies entered by colleges and departments that demonstrated a commitment to the university's strategic goals of access, student success, quality, resourcefulness and efficiency.
Of the 114 strategies reviewed in early October, 70 received approval to move forward. Examples of the types of proposals approved for support and funding include faculty positions, new degrees and concentrations, graduate assistant positions, travel funds and technology upgrades.
"This fits our objective to develop a solid plan to guide the university in critical decisions, provide common goals for campus units and employees, and define an action plan to help our university strive toward its vision," said Claire Stinson, vice president for business and planning.
In this light, the committee plans to review submitted strategies each February and September before budget cycles. Those who enter proposals will be able to track submissions and will receive feedback from the committee.
Matt Smith, a systems support specialist who oversees the strategic planning website, visited university divisions and colleges during the fall to discuss how to enter requests, how to navigate the site, and solicit feedback for future enhancements that have now been incorporated. Each division and college may continue to use login permissions to the site that were assigned during the previous strategic planning cycle. However, new user names and passwords can be requested.
Smith encourages users to become familiar with the process for entering a strategy, which includes linking it to a strategic goal and estimating the cost and revenue that would result. Several help tools are available, including calculators to determine cost and revenue estimates.
