Teaching, Research, and Professional Areas

  • Specializes in teaching strategic marketing, strategic branding, and comprehensive marketing management with emphasis on marketing strategy formulation and strategic marketing communications including relationship selling and customer relationship management (CRM)
  • A recipient of the College of Business’ Kinslow Award for Teaching Excellence and a designated “Power User” of online teaching/learning tools by TTU’s Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL)
  • Research interests center on strategic branding, digital content marketing, social media marketing, open-source branding via user-generated content, and ethical and social marketing 
  • Has published numerous articles and conference papers including works in the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Small Business Management, and National Social Sciences Journal.

Bio
Julie Pharr is a Professor of Marketing in the College of Business at Tennessee Tech University and holds a doctorate in marketing from Mississippi State University (1987).  Dr. Pharr holds professional memberships in the American Marketing Association, Society for Marketing Advances, Association of Marketing Theory and Practice, Atlantic Marketing Association, and Phi Kappa Phi.  She has published numerous papers in journals and conference proceedings and currently serves as a review board member of the Academic and Business Research Institute (AABRI).  Dr. Pharr has served and continues to serve as a marketing consultant to businesses and non-profit organizations throughout the Upper Cumberland region in the areas of strategic marketing planning, customer service management, marketing research, and consumer intelligence.
