- Catalytic methodology development
The synthesis of any small organic molecule is hypothetically possible, given enough time and resources required for a given synthesis. I am particularly interested in developing methodologies to replace expensive palladium catalysts with affordable nickel, copper, and iron catalysts.
- Photocatalytic bond cleavage
Visible light does not ordinarily interact with organic compounds. However, when paired with the right photocatalyst, visible light can break weak bonds and generate high-energy intermediates with great synthetic potential.
- Lab experiments for Chem Ed
Chemistry is an ever-changing and growing field, and chemistry courses should reflect emerging chemistry. Developing new lab experiments that expose students to modern organic chemistry reactions and techniques is an accessible and exciting area of Chemistry Education research.
