College of Engineering
New week-long summer program offers first-year engineering students a chance to skip ahead in math, move in early
As first-year students prepare themselves over the summer to transition to college
life in the Fall, Tennessee Tech University’s College of Engineering is offering its
incoming engineering freshmen a chance to move up one math course and get head start
on their degrees.
The college’s newly launched Reinforce Advanced Math Placement (RAMP) program an academic
summer bridge program designed to help first-year students prepare for their engineering,
engineering technology and computer science major. The one-week program includes structured
math preparation activities as well as social events to help them prepare for, and
excel in, their first year at Tech. This program takes place one week before the fall
semester.
As part of the RAMP program, participating students will take the ACCUPLACER test, which could move them to a higher starting math course, thus allowing them to start the Fall term further ahead than scheduled. As an added bonus, if a student will be living in a residential hall for the Fall 2022 semester, they will have the opportunity to move in early and get acclimated to campus before the semester begins.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Students who are incoming freshman with an intention to major in a College of Engineering discipline and who have an ACT Math score below 27 or SAT Math score below 640 are eligible to participate.
