Engineering Honor Society Tau Beta Pi Welcomes New Members
The Tennessee Tech University chapter of the engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi is proud to welcome 35 College of Engineering students into its ranks for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Tau Beta Pi is the second-oldest honor society in the United States, founded in 1885 to recognize outstanding achievement from all engineering disciplines. In order to join, students must be of exemplary character and in the top eighth of their junior class or top fifth of their senior class of all engineering students, making Tau Beta Pi one of the most prestigious and exclusive honor societies in the country. Included among Tau Beta Pi’s more than 629,000 members are 12 winners of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, 22 Nobel laureates, 72 astronauts, 14 state governors and more than 20 Olympic and professional athletes.
Tennessee Tech’s College of Engineering is one of 255 engineering colleges in the US to host a Tau Beta Pi chapter. Tennessee Tech’s chapter, Tennessee Gamma, was founded in February 1968 and has more than 2,600 members. Chapter advisers for Tennessee Gamma are Professors J.W. Bruce of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Sally Pardue of Mechanical Engineering.
