Public Relations Coordinator (Part-time)
Hours: Up to 29 per week
Pay Range: $18–$25 per hour
On-site position; hybrid arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates.
Tennessee Tech University is seeking a part-time Public Relations Coordinator to support the creation and distribution of high-quality communications that elevate the university’s reputation. The coordinator will write news releases and feature stories, produce email and other communications copy, and proofread and edit materials developed by colleagues
This position also supervises student workers and collaborates closely with university faculty, staff, students, local media and other audiences. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with sharp news judgment who can independently pursue story leads, manage multiple projects and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Write and edit news content, email communications, and a variety of other materials.
- Proofread and refine content produced by others to ensure accuracy, clarity and adherence to AP style.
- Supervise student workers.
- Cultivate productive working relationships with campus partners.
- Identify and pursue story leads that highlight the work and achievements of the university community
- Manage multiple assignments and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong news judgment.
- Knowledge of AP style guidelines.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of print, radio, television, social and online news media.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Writing experience with newspapers or other news media.
- Public relations experience.
