Tennessee Tech University faculty member and acclaimed clarinetist Mark J. Cramer will headline “Clarinet & Confections,” a special pay-what-you-can fundraiser supporting music education through the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, on Thursday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

The intimate evening of chamber music and desserts will feature Cramer in a candlelit recital with thoughtfully paired confections, offering audiences a unique musical experience while supporting arts education in the Upper Cumberland.

Cramer serves as associate professor of clarinet in Tennessee Tech’s School of Music and as principal clarinetist for the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, where he also serves as orchestra representative on the board of directors. Since joining Tech’s faculty in 2018, he has become a driving force in the region’s musical community through his performances, teaching and arts advocacy.

His musical reach extends well beyond the Upper Cumberland. Cramer is also a studio recording artist with the Nashville Scoring Orchestra, with performances featured in soundtracks for films, television, commercials, video games and theme park productions, including projects for Walt Disney World.

“Clarinet & Confections” combines live clarinet performance with a welcoming atmosphere and sweet treats, offering audiences an evening of chamber music in an intimate setting. The program will feature a variety of musical selections and desserts, creating a memorable evening for music lovers and dessert enthusiasts alike.

Beyond an evening of entertainment, the event carries a meaningful mission.

Cramer hopes to raise $5,000 through the fundraiser to support the Bryan Symphony Orchestra’s annual education concert, which introduces thousands of fourth-grade students from across the Upper Cumberland to the power of live symphonic music each year.

Susan Miranda, executive director of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, said the event reflects the organization’s commitment to both artistic excellence and community impact.

“Mark brings extraordinary artistry, warmth and passion to everything he does,” said Miranda. “Clarinet & Confections is more than a beautiful evening of music and desserts — it is an investment in the next generation of music lovers. Every ticket purchased directly supports the BSO’s work to engage, educate and enrich the Upper Cumberland through live music. We are grateful for Mark’s leadership and for a community that continues to champion arts education.”

Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, allowing patrons to support the orchestra at a level meaningful to them while enjoying an evening of live music and desserts. To learn more or reserve tickets, click here
