Tennessee Tech grad and New York Times best-selling author releases latest novel
Tennessee Tech University alumna and international best-selling author Hannah Whitten recently released her sixth novel, Reliquary.
An atmospheric horror novel set on a seaside estate, Reliquary marks a stylistic departure from Whitten's previous works.
"I'm super excited to be writing in a different genre to stretch my writer muscles and expand what I can do creatively," Whitten said. "I've always had spooky stuff and moments of horror in my fantasy novels. Now, I'm getting a chance to dive into the genre in earnest, and I'm so excited to hear what readers think."
Whitten burst onto the literary scene with her debut novel, For the Wolf. The dark retelling, often described as "Little Red Riding Hood meets Beauty and the Beast," landed her on the New York Times Best Sellers list. She followed with For the Throne, which also achieved international best-seller status.
Whitten later released the Nightshade Crown trilogy, which went on to earn critical acclaim.
Now an established author, Whitten looks back on her time studying English and professional communication at Tech as formative in finding her voice and expanding her horizons as a writer.
"My time at Tennessee Tech pushed me to expand my literary horizons and read things that I might have passed over otherwise," she said. "That shift hugely impacted and continues to impact what and how I wanted to write."
Whitten is currently slated to release four more books in the coming years through Orbit Books and Run For It Books, imprints of Hachette Book Group.
Whitten's latest book release comes on the heels of another hometown honor. She was recently featured on the cover of the fall 2026 issue of Cookeville Lifestyle magazine, which is currently available throughout the Cookeville area and chronicles her journey from local student and avid reader to New York Times best-selling author.
