The Upper Cumberland art world would not be the same without Sally Crain-Jager s influence and Saturday, April 25, the Tennessee Tech University art department will honor her memory and legacy in the community.

The university will host a commemorative exhibition of Crain-Jager s work from 3 to 5 p.m. in the lobby of the Bryan Fine Arts Building on campus.

The exhibition and reception will be a celebration of Sally and her lasting legacy in the art communities at Tennessee Tech and within the region, said Ward Doubet, Tennessee Tech art department chairman. Though Sally retired from Tennessee Tech in 2001, she continued her tireless pursuit as an educator, arts advocate, leader and prolific painter.

Crain-Jager came to Tennessee Tech in 1967.

In her more than three decades teaching at the university, she helped to found its art education and painting programs and the Bacchanal scholarship endowment to help fund art students educations. She also helped to establish the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery in honor of a fellow artist and Tennessee Tech s longtime first lady. The gallery is on the first floor of the Roaden University Center.

After her retirement, she went on to found the Arts for Healing Program at Cookeville Regional Medical Center Art Center. The program is founded on the belief that fine art helps patients and family members heal and cope with illnesses.

The reception will mark the beginning of a community effort to establish a scholarship endowment in Crain-Jager s honor. The Sally Crain-Jager memorial art scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing a bachelor s degree in fine art with a concentration in painting.

Crain-Jager passed away Nov. 22, 2014.

The reception is open to the public. The Bryan Fine Arts Building is at 1150 N. Dixie Avenue, Cookeville.

Contributions to the memorial scholarship can be made through the Tennessee Tech Foundation, P.O. Box 5111, Cookeville, TN, 38505.
