An original composition by Trevor Rundell, a trumpet student at Tennessee Tech University, has won an international competition and will be performed in concert by the ensemble Dallas Winds. The Murfreesboro native s piece, D j vu Fanfare, was one of seven compositions from around the world selected for the ensemble s annual fanfare competition. More than 40 pieces were submitted. Trevor is a superbly talented student who is now gaining recognition for his efforts, said Tennessee Tech s director of bands Joseph Hermann, who has served as Rundell s conducting mentor. The Dallas Winds are one of the two best professional wind ensembles in the world. Few undergraduates have ever drawn this kind of international attention. Rundell is a senior music education major. He studies composition with Tennessee Tech professor and resident composer Greg Danner and trumpet with Charles Decker, Tennessee Tech trumpet professor. The Tennessee Tech Trumpet Ensemble first performed Rundell s winning piece before it was adapted for a wind ensemble. The trumpet ensemble and the Golden Eagle Marching Band have performed several of his other pieces as well. The Dallas Winds will play Rundell s piece during their 2015-16 subscription concert series. |
