Young learners are invited to learn about weather in a new way at Tennessee Tech University s Millard Oakley STEM Center during the next STEM Safari Saturday April 12.
The day s program, April Showers Bring May Flowers, will include a variety of small experiments to teach the science behind weather and inspire an interest in science, technology, engineering and math in young children. Exploration stations will be set up for children and their families to explore at will and learn the causes of wind and rain, and how sun showers happen.
We challenge and support young learners to understand the complex wonders in their everyday lives, like weather, through age-appropriate hands-on activities, said event organizer Jane Baker, Tennessee Tech associate professor of curriculum and instruction and a leader in early childhood STEM education. The goal is to inspire interest and curiosity so that the exploration continues at home. The event is designed to make learning fun.
The event is designed for students in pre-kindergarten through third grade and their families. Older siblings are welcome as well, but parents or guardians must remain with their children at all times. Guests are welcome to come and go as their schedules allow between 9 a.m. and noon.
