The 12th annual event is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments on campus, allowing them to display their research and creative projects.
For this year s event, organizers called on the creativity of Assistant Professor David Gallop s students in the School of Art, Craft and Design to create a logo.
Senior design major Dalton Satterfield created the winning piece. Satterfield looks to make a career from his drawings, which typically feature cartoons and handwritten typography.
I love that design allows you to take something like a poster or logo and turn it into something appealing, Satterfield said. It s a sneaky way of selling art to people.
That creative approach to design was a good fit for the event logo as well, since Research and Creative Inquiry Day is all about giving students a platform to showcase and discuss their own innovative ideas about research and other creative projects.
Participating students submitted their abstracts to the university s Research & Economic Development and most will present posters at the April 6 event. This year, the event has been expanded to include literary research as well, inviting students in the English Department to present papers.
This year s event will feature nearly 190 student projects.
Designed as a diverse, interdisciplinary representation of the work going on at Tech, Research and Creative Inquiry Day is open to the public.
On Wednesday, April 5, registration and poster setup begins at 11 a.m. in the Hooper Eblen Center, with judging from 4-6 p.m. in the Hooper Eblen Center. Literary research papers will be presented in the Tech Pride Room on Wednesday as well.
On Thursday, April 6, posters will be on display in the arena level of the Hooper Eblen Center from 9 to 11 a.m. Students are invited to be available to discuss their work with guests that day as well as during the judging on April 5. An award ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday.
