Traditionally, college graduates wear black robes when they receive their degrees. In honor of its Centennial, this year s Tennessee Tech University graduates will wear purple instead. This semester, more than 800 students will receive their degrees. More than 120 of them will graduate with some kind of honor, and five will graduate with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages. Graduates represent 38 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs. They come from 69 of Tennessee s counties, 24 states and 10 other countries. The youngest graduates were born in 1995, the oldest in 1930, 15 years before Tennessee Tech was founded. TTU s Centennial started in March. This is the first time the graduates will wear purple gowns, in honor of Tennessee Tech s colors of purple and gold. Graduates will continue wearing purple gowns for the spring 2016 and fall 2016 ceremonies as well. This is also the first time that Tennessee Tech University will host two fall commencement ceremonies. Graduates of the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Interdisciplinary Studies and the Whitson Hester School of Nursing will graduate in the 9:30 a.m. ceremony. The ceremony will be streamed live at http://livestream.com/accounts/14785136/events/4555458. The Colleges of Agriculture & Human Ecology, Business and Education will participate in the afternoon ceremony, which begins at 2 p.m. That ceremony can be viewed live at http://livestream.com/accounts/14785136/events/4555487. Both ceremonies will be in the Hooper Eblen Center, 1100 McGee Boulevard. After the Dec. 12 ceremonies, nearly 81,000 students will have graduated with Tennessee Tech degrees. |
