Students to receive increased HOPE Scholarship funds

Derryberry HallGoing to college at Tennessee Tech University just got more affordable for thousands of students receiving HOPE Scholarship funds. Students will begin receiving the increased funds for the Fall 2022 semester.

Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill approved by the Tennessee State Legislature that will mean an $85 million increase in HOPE Scholarship funding.

Some aspects of the HOPE Expansion Bill will directly support students at Tech and other colleges in the state:

  • Increases the per-semester award to $2,850 for juniors and seniors receiving the HOPE Scholarship at Tech and other four-year institutions in the state – a $600 per semester increase
  • Increases the per-semester award to $2,250 for freshmen and sophomores receiving the HOPE Scholarship at Tech and other four-year institutions in the state – a $500 per semester increase
  • Expands the HOPE Scholarship for nontraditional students at Tech and other schools in the state by using independent status from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Tennessee high school students who get a 21 on the ACT or graduate with a 3.0 GPA are eligible for the HOPE Scholarship. Undergraduate students must maintain a certain GPA to continue receiving the scholarship, which can be received for up to five years after the initial enrollment date.

The HOPE Scholarship is funded by the state’s lottery. This increase marks the largest boost in the HOPE Scholarship since 2004 when the program was established.

Students planning to attend college in the Fall should work to complete their FAFSA  in order to receive the HOPE Scholarship.

Tennessee Tech is the number one public university in Tennessee in MONEY Magazine’s “Best College’s for Your Money” listing, with graduates earning high early career salaries and graduating with low debt.
