The 2027-2028 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now available to students nationwide, and Tennessee Tech University is putting students first with a free event to answer common FAFSA questions and take the guesswork out of the financial aid process.

Tech's Office of Financial Aid will host its annual "Early Bird Tour" on Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Roaden University Center's Multipurpose Room located at 1000 N. Dixie Ave. on Tech's campus.

The drop-in event will allow current and prospective Tech students and their families to meet the Financial Aid team, complete the FAFSA, set up student accounts and get questions answered by university experts.

Students can even complete an on-the-spot application for admission to Tech and learn more about scholarship opportunities available through the university. The event is open to all students and family members, and attendees will have opportunities to win Tech gear and other prizes.

"Preparing for college comes with a lot of important decisions, and the FAFSA process can sometimes feel overwhelming," said Mary McCaskey, Tech's associate vice president for enrollment and student success. "We want students and families to know they don't have to navigate it alone. Our staff is here to answer questions, provide guidance and help make financial aid as straightforward as possible. We want students and parents to leave confident that they've completed every step necessary to maximize the federal, state and institutional aid available to them."

Earlier this year, the university was named to U.S. News & World Report's "Best National Universities" list for the 12th consecutive year and named the No. 1 public university in Tennessee by Money.com.

Tech has also launched new in-demand academic programs, including a bachelor's degree program in nuclear engineering in 2024 and one in artificial intelligence earlier this year. Next fall, the university will debut a new Bachelor of Architecture degree. Altogether, the university offers more than 265 programs of study.

In addition, Tech offers guaranteed scholarships ranging in value from $3,000 to $10,000 per year through its Presidential Scholars program to students who meet minimum GPA and standardized test score requirements and apply for fall 2027 admission before Dec. 15.
