The 1998 Higher Education Act requires all post-secondary institutions to distribute information to students concerning voter registration. Tennessee residents who wish to register to vote may do so by clicking here.
Putnam County encourages Tennessee Tech students to participate in local, county, state and national elections. To vote in elections in the State of Tennessee, one must be registered at least 30 days prior to the election date. Upon receiving and approving the voter registration application form, the Putnam County Election Commission will assign the individual a voting precinct (where the voter will vote on election day based on residence address).
An individual who is registered to vote in their home county of residence and is attending a university or college outside their home of voter record may request an absentee ballot from their County Election Commission office (check with your county election office for deadlines), and vote by absentee ballot. The student, if residing in Putnam County, may choose to change their county of residence (and spouse if applicable), and register to vote in Putnam County while attending Tennessee Tech (which cancels voter registration in the previous county of residence), and then vote either during the announced early voting period, or on election day.
Voter Registration applications and other election information may be obtained by visiting the Putnam County Election Commission website.
Voter cards are mailed to the voter's address provided on the registration application. Tennessee Tech students living on campus should provide their residence address of 1000 N. Dixie Avenue, with appropriate P.O. Box number or if mail is received by general delivery.
Students with questions about any election process should call the Putnam County Election Commission at (931) 526-8724, or email inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org. The Election Commission office is located at 705 County Service Dr, Cookeville, TN 38501.
Students May Register to Vote if They:
Are a U.S. citizen
Will be 18 years of age on/or before the next election
Are a resident of Tennessee
Have not been convicted of a felony or, if convicted, had voting rights restored by a court order or pardon
