The Ross Reading Camp: A Legacy of Literacy
Ross Reading Camp (RRC) is a free, one-week summer program hosted by Tennessee Tech where children build confidence and joy as readers through engaging books, hands-on learning, caring mentors, and lots of fun.
Summer 2026 Camp Week:
June 1–June 5
The camp is a half-day program that runs Monday, June 1st through Friday, June 5th.
Families may select, based on their child’s grade level, either the 1st–3rd grade morning session or the 4th–6th grade afternoon session.

Daily Schedule
8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Rising 1st–3rd Grade
(students who have completed grades K–2)
12:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Rising 4th–6th Grade
(students who have completed grades 3–5)
A typical day for each group includes a community gathering, an interactive read-aloud, small-group book clubs, a literacy mini-lesson, fluency-building activities (such as readers’ theater), a literacy-connected STEM or art project, movement, independent reading time, and a closing circle. Each session also includes a meal and snack.
Field Trips

As part of the camp experience, we will offer simple, local “field trip” experiences that highlight reading and learning in action. These may include:
1) Short walks to campus locations such as Memorial Gym, the STEM Center, or nearby green spaces.
2) A trip to Plenty Bookshop for local author visits and readings.
Specific field trip details and permission requests will be shared with families prior to the start of camp.
