A secondary education curriculum in mathematics prepares a student to teach mathematics classes at the high school level. The love of learning, the desire to guide others to their full potential, and preparing students to enter college (or the workforce) are primary motivators for those who become secondary education teaching majors. The secondary education curriculum is designed to provide graduates with a foundation of teaching skills based on the latest in instructional theory and the use of instructional technology, coupled with in-depth content knowledge within a specific discipline. Students in licensure programs also engage in extensive clinical experiences in public schools for hands-on training in pedagogy, professional collaboration and classroom management.
Tennessee Tech also offers a 2+2 program in Secondary Education — Mathematics (6-12
Licensure)! Our 2+2 program allows you to complete your first 60 credit hours at your local community college, with courses
conducted by Tech faculty, and then transfer to Tech to complete the remaining 60
credit hours. For more information on the Secondary Education — Mathematics 2+2 program, click here.
