Requirements, Policies and Deadlines
To receive college credit for your dual enrollment courses through Tennessee Tech,
you and your parent or guardian must complete all required steps by the stated deadlines.
You may still finish the class at your high school, but if admissions, registration
and payment requirements are not complete through Tennessee Tech, no college credit
will be awarded.
Key Deadlines
Students must:
- Apply to Tennessee Tech for the specific dual enrollment semester (fall, spring or summer) no later than five business days before classes start.
- Submit the Dual Enrollment Application, Intent to Attend form and Health Form no later than two business days before classes start.
- Submit the TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant application by the state deadlines for each term if they plan to use the grant.
- Submit any eligible state employee discount forms by the last business day of the term.
State TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant application deadlines are:
- Fall semester: September 15
- Spring semester: February 1
- Summer semester: May 15
Things to Know
Why the program is called dual enrollment
You must be enrolled both at your high school and at Tennessee Tech in order to receive
college credit. Even if you complete all assignments at your high school, you will
not earn Tennessee Tech credit unless all admissions, registration and payment steps
are complete through the university.
Continuous enrollment and reapplying
If you stay continuously enrolled in dual enrollment from fall to spring or spring
to fall, you do not have to submit a new application each term. If you skip a fall
or spring semester, you will need to submit a new dual enrollment application when
you return. Summer terms do not count as a break in enrollment.
Updating your application information
If you need to update your contact information on your dual enrollment application,
you can use Tennessee Tech’s application update process to change items such as your address or phone number.
Online courses and iLearn
If you enroll in an online dual enrollment course, you will access course materials
and assignments through iLearn, Tennessee Tech’s learning management system. iLearn
is available through Tech Express once you are enrolled. Be sure to log in early and
get familiar with your course site.
Dropping dual enrollment courses
Every semester has a specific deadline to drop a dual enrollment course. If you are considering dropping a course, talk with your high school counselor as early as possible.
- Courses dropped after the drop date may result in a remaining balance that is not covered by the TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant.
- Dropping after the final drop date may only be allowed by special request and may result in a “withdrawn” grade on your college transcript.
- Withdrawing from courses can affect your eligibility for the TSAC Dual Enrollment
Grant in future semesters.
You can find drop and add deadlines on Tennessee Tech’s academic calendar.
If you are admitted as an incoming freshman and also taking dual enrollment
If you are a high school senior who has been admitted to Tennessee Tech as an incoming
freshman for a future term and you also want to take dual enrollment courses before
you graduate, you must still apply for dual enrollment for the specific term in which
you will take those courses. Dual enrollment and incoming freshman status are treated
as different student types, and each requires its own application.
Selective Service requirement for 18-year-old male students
All U.S. males are required to register for Selective Service when they turn 18. Tennessee
Tech cannot register male students age 18 or older for dual enrollment courses if
they have not registered for Selective Service. Students can register and learn more
at the Selective Service System website.
How your grades are reported
At the end of each semester, Tennessee Tech sends dual enrollment transcripts, including course grades, to your high school through a secure process so your school can record your credit.
