About

Education:

  • PhD, Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, 2010
  • Postdoctoral Research Associate, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas Tech University, 2010-2015

Former positions:

  • Associate Director, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas Tech University, 2020 (till March)
  • Research Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Texas Tech University, 2016-2019

Teaching Interests:

  • General Chemistry for Chemistry, Biochemistry and Engineering Majors
  • Physical Chemistry for Chemistry, Biochemistry and Engineering Majors

Research Interests:
Computational and Theoretical Physical Chemistry

Research Topics:

  • Dynamics of soft landing of peptide ions on organic surfaces
  • Dynamics of collision induced dissociation of peptide ions
  • Dynamics of noble gas collision on ice surface
  • Dynamics of chemical reactions in gas phase
  • Post-transition state dynamics

Computational methods:

  • Quantum chemical calculations followed by parameterization of PES for development of force field parameters
  • Classical dynamics simulations
  • QM and QM/MM direct dynamics simulations

The simulation results are used to compare with experiments and to test and develop theoretical models of molecular motion and chemical reactivity. Several visualization softwares are used to animate and visualize the dynamics of molecular motion, at an atomistic, microscopic level.

Dr. Pratihar advised several Chemistry and Biochemistry major students for their under-graduate research projects.
