Metal Casting Laboratory
The metal casting laboratory is equipped to perform various casting processes. The laboratory contains a green-sand and a waterless-sand system conditioned with a sand muller. Melting is done with either a gas-fired furnace or a 100KW electric induction furnace.
Basic tools are available for all types of bench molding. Machine molding is done on jolt-squeeze machines using various match plate patterns. The clean-up equipment includes a Powermatic band saw, a Setco heavy-duty grinder, four belt grinders, and a Wheelabrator abrasive blaster, plus a shell core machine and a Dependable sand mixer.
A large selection of patterns are available for casting. Metals cast include aluminum, silicon bronze, and gray iron.
