Program of Study
B.S. Engineering
The General Engineering program, offered jointly with East Tennessee State University, is a flexible, interdisciplinary engineering program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. You’ll take courses from multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, electrical and civil engineering, to prepare for careers that span traditional boundaries. Students develop a broad engineering perspective, strengthen systems thinking and problem-solving skills, and are prepared to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam while pursuing careers in a wide range of technical industries.
Becoming a Licensed Professional Engineer
Students completing the B.S. in Engineering are eligible to take the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. The FE exam is a computer-based test and the first major step toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). The FE exam tests students’ general and discipline-specific engineering knowledge.
Taking the exam is voluntary, though strongly encouraged. Passing the FE exam shows employers you have a foundational mastery of engineering principles, even at an entry level.
