General and Industrial Engineering provides students with a broad foundation in engineering principles, systems thinking and problem-solving. Whether you're exploring engineering for the first time, looking for a flexible interdisciplinary engineering degree or adding an Industrial & Systems Engineering minor to your major, you'll gain the knowledge and skills needed to tackle complex challenges across industries and disciplines. 

Programs and Opportunities

Students in a classroomThe Department of General and Industrial Engineering serves students in several ways:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering (B.S.E.)

A flexible, interdisciplinary engineering degree that combines coursework from multiple engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering. Students develop a broad understanding of engineering practice while preparing for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam and a wide range of technical careers.

Basic Engineering (B.E.)

Still deciding which engineering major is right for you? Basic Engineering provides a non-degree first-year home for students exploring engineering disciplines while building a strong foundation in math, science, and engineering courses as you choose a College of Engineering major. Students begin their journey with ENGR 1210: Introduction to Engineering.

Industrial & Systems Engineering Minor

Industrial & Systems Engineering complements every engineering discipline. Students learn to improve processes, optimize systems, manage projects, and solve complex organizational challenges.

General Engineering Studies Minor

Designed for students outside of engineering, this minor provides valuable background in engineering and technology concepts that can enhance careers across business, science, public service and other fields.
