Summer Workshops for Art Educators
Educator Workshops provide Tennessee art educators with an immersive workshop experience on the Appalachian Center for Craft campus. This program is designed to provide professional development, revitalize creative practice, and give teachers the opportunity to become students again.

About
Selected art educators are invited to spend a week or weekend in residence at the Appalachian Center for Craft campus, learning and creating in craft media, like clay, metals, glass, fibers, wood and more. Workshops take place in our studios and participants learn from professional teaching artists. Our goal is to provide participants with educational creative experiences they can apply to their classrooms while giving them studio time, materials and instruction to revitalize their personal creative practices.
- No prior experience is required.
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included during the program’s duration.
- On-site lodging is provided.
- The total cost to attend a weeklong workshop is $100 and a weekend workshop is $50. This fee includes tuition, materials, lodging and meals.

Intuitive Quilting
Casey Engel
This workshop explores quilting through improvisation, play, and intuition. Students will begin with a small hand-sewn mini quilt to learn the structure and process of quilting, then move into improvisational machine piecing to experiment with color and composition. The emphasis will be on creating wall quilts. Participants will be guided through each step—from constructing the quilt top to basting and binding. This workshop welcomes both hand- and machine-curious quilters and provides a foundation for a sustainable quilting practice at any scale.
